Furthermore, the type had a muzzle velocity of 762 meters per second and utilized a five round magazine. The total length of the rifle was around 128 centimetres, an astoundingly large length for a rifle of the time. The total weight of the weapon meanwhile was about 3.95 kilograms. To be used with the weapon, the Type 30 Bayonet only further extended the Type 38, turning it into a very effective sword-like weapon to be used quite effectively in close quarters combat. Although the Type 38 was extremely reliable and well liked for its ability to be used in a variety of conditions, its 6.5mm round simply did not contain enough energy to knock down enemies quickly enough. Thus, the weapon was modified later on to correct these problems.
