Sora was built as an agency that would contract Sakurai as a freelance video game designer to different companies. His first project under Sora was designing Meteos with Q Entertainment. Nintendo's Satoru Iwata hired Sakurai, a long-time friend whom he had worked with at HAL Laboratory, to work on Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Development was supported by various other studios, including Game Arts and Monolith Soft, the latter now a first-party developer for Nintendo. On 18 February 2009, after the success of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Nintendo announced the formation of Project Sora, a subsidiary that will develop a new title to be directed by Sakurai. The development group is located in Tokyo's Idabashi area. It was officially formed on 22 January with capital of 200 million yen, of which 72% was provided by Nintendo and the remainder by Sora Ltd. and other parties. Sakurai will serve as the company's president. The studio is beginning development with a staff of 30 (most of whom were recruits Nintendo hired for the development of Super Smash Bros. Brawl), with new recruitment constantly ongoing for a bigger development staff. Project Sora released Kid Icarus: Uprising for the Nintendo 3DS in March 2012. They were working on 2 new Super Smash Bros. games for the 3DS and Wii U. Project Sora was closed on June 30, and its closed website has a note: "The company was dissolved on June 30th, 2012. Thank you very much for your patronage so far. This website was closed on July 31st." Namco Bandai is collaborating with Sora Ltd. for the development of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. Sora Ltd. is a Japanese video game developer founded by former HAL Laboratory employee Masahiro Sakurai. It was formed in the years following Sakurai's resignation from his position at HAL Laboratory. Sora Ltd.'s first game was Super Smash Bros. Brawl. However, most of the development was handled by Game Arts and Monolith Soft. Sakurai created Project Sora, a division of Sora Ltd., in January 2009. They developed Kid Icarus: Uprising for the Nintendo 3DS, which was unveiled at E3 2011. On June 30, Project Sora was officially closed and the website has been updated with a message that states: "The Company was dissolved on 30 June 2012. Thank you very much for your patronage so far, this website will be closed as of July 31, 2012." Sora Ltd.'s latest game, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, co-developed by Namco Bandai, was released for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan on September 13, 2014. Sora Ltd. is a video game developer founded by Masahiro Sakurai, mainly to develop Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It has just 2 members (Including Sakurai), with SSBB also being developed with some "borrowed" Game Arts employees. Early in 2009, Sora and Nintendo announced Project Sora, a subsidiary that would develop games exclusively for Nintendo's systems. This article is a stub.
