"Ice Cream Man" is a song by Van Halen which was written and originally recorded by Chicago Blues musician John Brim. Born in 1922, Brim recorded this at Chess Records in 1953. In 1994, he released a compilation album called The Ice Cream Man. This is one of David Lee Roth's favorites. He pushed to get it on Van Halen's first album as a tribute to the Blues. The first verse is just Roth singing and playing acoustic guitar. The full band joins in after that. Like many American Blues songs, the lyrics are loaded with sexual imagery. The Ice Cream Man is a tall lanky fellow dressed in pink who delivers ice cream to children in his ice cream truck. He only appears in the episode Ice Cream Scream. In a black-and-white prologue, a young boy witnesses the murder of an ice cream man in a small town. Years later, the boy, named Gregory Tutor, returns to the town to become ice cream man himself. He has spent the intervening years in a mental hospital. He kills some people (and a dog) while doing his duties as ice cream man, leading to suspicion from local kids and the police. He throws little snowballs that freezes and then corrupts pikmin. That's about it. Ice Cream Man is the minor character of Rugrats that he is voiced by Joe Alaskey. The Ice Cream Man is a mortal appointed by the Elders to drive the Ice Cream Truck, which plays a magical series of notes that lures demonic children. When the children are near the truck, they are sucked into a small dimension within, where they are destroyed by the Nothing. A mortal is chosen for this task as only a mortal can open the truck. The first known ice cream man was sucked up by the Nothing in 2001 and was replaced by Caleb, as was destined. Ice Cream Man sells Ice-Cream from the Ice Cream Van.

Van Halen included this on a cassette they gave Gene Simmons before they had a record deal. Simmons didn't like this song, but let them record it anyway when he flew them to New York to make a demo. They didn't get a deal out of it, but when Warner Brothers finally signed them, the songs on the demo, including this, made up much of their first 2 albums. In 1659 the Sicilian chef Francesco Procopia dei Coltelli perfected the making of ice cream. Twenty seven years later dei Coltelli opened Le Procope, the first cafe in Paris. Here after being considered a dessert for royalty alone, ice cream was made available to the general public for the first time.
