The Redemptionists were a group present within Bajoran society by the 24th century. This organization were known as being a terrorist group that plagued Bajor and were noted for rejecting traditional Bajoran culture. They were very active in the 2360's where they were responsible for copying Federation weaponry and using them for terrorist actions which included an attempt to destroy Deep Space 9 as well as a Cardassian Union ship under the command of Gul Gurney. One of the terrorist cells was apprehended by Major Kira Nerys when they attempted to escape through the Bajoran wormhole and into the Gamma Quadrant. The Redemptionists were later responsible for the kidnapping of Kai Opaka Sulan. During the latter action, they demanded that Starfleet Commander Benjamin Sisko of Deep Space 9 personally negotiate for her release but did not act according to their word which prompted the Human to rescue her. He discovered her deep beneath a Bajoran temple on Bajor where the Redemptionists were creating weapons through Replicators. After destroying a generator that was interfering with the transporter, Sisko was able to rescue both the Kai and a stolen Orb. A second attack was made at the Bajoran temple on the Promenade on Deep Space 9 where a Redemptionist attempted to recapture the Orb. It was later discovered that the current leader of the Redemptionists was a Cardassian who had been surgically altered in order to appear as a Bajoran and had been using the group to instigate various attacks in the Bajor sector. Once in place, he used his position to help bolster the movement by providing them Cardassian made Replicators which were used to make their weapons. Their plan was to acquire one of the last Bajoran Orbs for collection by the Cardassian Union. (DS9 video game: Crossroads of Time)
