The series is set within the confines of a completely unexplored area, and introduces a brand new regions: Xeno, with its two outlying islands of Mahima, and Nanten, all of which are located on the other side of Pokémon world, completely opposite from all previous regions. It primarily follows the adventures of a young Pokémon Trainer named Sage, and his walking Pokémon, Aladdin the Lucario, as they set out in order to conquer the Xeno League and complete the bond ritual, becoming Bond Masters. Along they way, they encounter and travel with a variety of other characters, such as the mysterious Celeste (who hails from the equally-enigmatic Dark Lands). They also come into contact with Team Samsara, and struggle against their plot to reawaken the region's Legendary Pokémon. The series's structure is heavily influenced by both the Pokémon Adventures manga and the mainstream anime series, though it follows unique rules set by the author and is generally set within its own universe. The title is an abbreviation of the Aether, Nether, and Tether Versions.
