According to officials at the nursing home, Yamanaka loved singing and dancing. Following her death, the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry of Japan reported that a 112-year-old woman from Okinawa Prefecture, was the nation's new oldest person. This turned out to be Kama Chinen.
