Eric first became involved with the Collins family when he treated Barnabas and Vicki, at Collinsport Hospital, following a car accident. His assistant, Jeff Clark, became romantically involved with Vicki. Eric did not support the relationship, as he wished to keep Jeff under his control. Eric temporarily cured Barnabas of his vampirism. It was revealed that Jeff was suffering from amnesia and Eric had convinced him he was a murderer. Threatening to reveal Jeff's secret, Eric blackmailed him into digging up graves and stealing body parts for an experiment. Eric later attempted to kill Jeff to finish the experiment, but was unsuccesful. Eric became the third victim of the Dream Curse after Jeff told him the dream. In Eric's dream, Dr Julia Hoffman was the beckoner and he saw his headless creation laughing at him. Eric passed the dream on to Julia shortly after he had it. After he died, Jeff found out that Eric had been lying to him about him being a murderer. Eric's ultimate goal was to create an artificial man. His creation was eventually brought to life as Adam. Shortly before the experiment was completed Angelique, who was then posing as Cassandra Collins, killed Eric. She used voodoo magic on him causing him to have a massive heart attack. Before he died, Eric left a message on a tape recorder explaining the link between Adam and Barnabas. When warlock Nicholas Blair heard Eric's message, he became interesed in Adam and he summoned Eric from the dead to explain how Adam had been created. After Nicholas found out what he wanted to know from Eric, he sent him back to the grave.
