The Holes in the World is a major plot element in the webcomic Namesake, it first appears in Oz as a shape-shifting cataclysmic and virtually unstoppable eldritch with several snake-like heads and that appears to be made of a strange black substance. It desires to consume the land of Oz and everyone in it for reasons unknown. The Hole and the Ghosts are actually embodiments of incompletion, usually caused by forsaking Namesakes not having finished their tasks or a lack of a Namesake as a whole. These fiends lurk in the land of Oz as well and is what supposedly trapped Ozma in the vines and was contained within the Scarecrow.
