My Pokemon life: Chapter 18 - Night Travels
rdfs:comment
Lamp laughed at me as I hauled the leftover fried slug out of the cave exit. Tailwind, flapping about as usual, was serving as our scout just in case any more humans or wild Pokemon are close by. Then it hit me, I could not believe I forgot about this question earlier. I turned to Lamp, sweating from exhaustion."Hey...can I ask you something?" Lamp didn't look at me, but she seemed to listen. "Sure" "Yeah but...it just seems pointless to fight over a small piece of land. I mean they have Alaska and-" Lamp suddenly stopped and looked at me. "What did you say?" "Fine..." I glanced at her. "Who?"

"Sure" "Why are we at war with the humans?" The wind was brushing against my face, so I had to yell a bit over that and the waves below the cliff below us. The tension of the rope I was pulling made it difficult to keep up with her."Don't you know that already?" Lamp asked, glancing at me for a second. "Yeah but...it just seems pointless to fight over a small piece of land. I mean they have Alaska and-" Lamp suddenly stopped and looked at me. "What did you say?" I grunted after I set the rope down. "Alaska...it's big enough for them to build more cities so why not build there?" Lamp looked at me suspiciously. "How do you know about the human countries?" "For the last time I'm telling you, I'm not what you think I am. I'm a human! For crying out loud-" Lamp laughed. "Hmhm...you and your fantasy worlds" "I'm not...I...well I am in a fantasy now I mean..." I kind of lost my motive there and trialed off. "Thought so" Lamp chuckled, "Come on now, the sun's going to set in a few hours" "Fine..." We set up a small camp near the edge of a forest, away from the cliffside. Tailwind and I helped make the tents while Lamp prepared the food. It was a pretty quiet moment, no one spoke to each other. The stars loomed above use silently. Tailwind was sound asleep on top of the perch of the tent while me and Lamp looked up at the stars. "...you seemed pretty disturbed last night Tim..." Lamp said quietly, "...what were you dreaming about?" I rolled over to my side, annoyed. "Nothing for you to be concerned about..." Lamp's lightbulb lit up the behind me after the final day sky dissapeared into darkness. I could see my long shadow trialing ahead of me. "Tell me please..." Lamp said behind me. I could feel her eyes staring at my back. "...no Lamp" I replied, rolling over to look at her. "I won't" Lamp scoffed quietly with a smile, "Fine..." I looked back up at the sky again. In the distance, I could see war in the distance, illuminated by explosions and shots. The cracks of bullets disturbed the silent night. "I hope they're doing well down there..." Lamp said worringly. I glanced at her. "Who?" "My friends..." Lamp sighed, "They're fighting down there...for the sake of the town" I kind of felt some remorse for her at that moment. I lost many friends during my years back home. "...alright..." I said flatly. Lamp got up, looking at the distance. She did not say a word as she turned and left for the tent. I looked ahead at the explosions, which were looking like distant fireworks now. I thought about why am I here and why doesn't my mentors, Drake and Xenon, just handle this themselves? I sighed and got up to go to bed too, when I heard a twig snap. I turned around quickly, looking at the darkness of the trees. Nothing. Stupid birds, I thought. I walked with Lamp to the tent. "Not sleeping alone tongiht huh" Lamp looked at me. "I'm not that emo..." I replied. "Seems like you are" I rolled my eyes. She doesn't know who I am. Just as we approached the tent, I noticed that there was alot of clicking going on around us. I grabbed Lamp and rolled out of the way of bullets flying all around us from the trees. I peeked over from our cover, a rock, to check if Tailwind was okay. He was not there. I groaned, and told Lamp to stay put. But she insisted to come along after the firearms silenced. "Just...try not to get shot out there okay? I already have two friends gone from this world already" Lamp nodded, and we both set off for the forest behind us. We travelled down a narrow rock alley. Turns out it was another cave yet again. When I looked up, it was sparkling with gems and crystals. Kind of amazing how they were never found and turned into rings. Lamp and I came across several pathways. But before we could make a decision, a bullet slammed against my metallic claw. I swore as more bullets headed in our direction. The humans seem to have a bad aim despite Lamp giving away my position clearly. We ran down a pathway quickly, well, I ran and Lamp floats, since she's a floating fish. I could hear the footsteps being me becoming more paced, there was no way we could shake these humans off. "Lam...listen to me, you have to hide. I'll kill them once they come around the corner" "Hide?!" She started to raise her voice, but I clamped her mouth. I let go once she calmed. "What do you mean...are you insane?!" She said in a whisper. "Just trust me..." I looked into her eyes. She nodded silently, and hid around the corner. I drew my scythe and leaned against the crystals of the cave, away from the illuminating ones. The human soldiers rushed in like I planned. The narrow pathway only allows one of them to travel at a time. I gave the first one a blade to the face. The third one in line panicked and fired, which caused them to fire wildly, killing themselves. Once the last body fell, I peeked my head around the corner. I looked at Lamp and gave her the hand signal that it's clear. We exited out of the cave into the silent, dead night. Our camp was burned to the ground, and our food was stolen. I rummaged around for anything remaining from the fire. Nothing. "Tim..." Lamp beckoned me, "I...found Tailwind" What disgusted me was not the way Tailwind was disposed of, it was the what the humans did to him after they killed him. To avoid grotesque pictures, only his head and spine remained. "...damn..." I felt no sympathy for him. He annoyed me from the time I met him. Lamp no the otherhand was tearing. "...rest well...friend..." She said as she closed his eye lids. "...we should bury him-" "No" I turned towards the cave. "We need to keep moving on, we're wasting out time just standing here" "Who the hell put you in charge?! You're still a future inmate of-" "Okay miss, you decide what to do. What do we do miss? You're the boss" I said sarcastically. "I..." She seemed confused. "What? No plans? Okay let's just sit here and cry, I'll start first" I sat down on the grass. "Shut up...please..." Lamp rubbed her head. "Hmhm, see? You need me" I looked at her, smirking. "...fine...but I'm still keeping my eye on you" We moved into the dark cave with crystals. I looked around for any movement, my scythe out as Lamp followed closely behind me. I could've sworn it was past midnight, because my focus faded away due to my tiredness. I looked at Lamp, she was as tired as me. "We...should rest for the night" I yawned. "Yeah...but we need a cave..." she yawns, "a cave to keep use safe...like a crevice or something..." I looked around, there was a large cave in up the wall, about 2 floors up. I looked at Lamp, and pointed up at the cave. "Yeah...that'll do" She said. "Wait...can't you swim up there or something? I'm still shocked about the fish on air thing" "Well duh I can swim...why-" I slapped my forehead. "Then why didn't you fly out of there when the humans came along?" "I was scared okay?!" "Whatever..." I scoffed. "Just let me ride on your back" "Fine..." Lamp said as I got on her back. My claws made her squinch a bit, I apologized for the scratch. Sparks went off as scratched my claws together on three pieces of wood that I scavenged from the camp. Slithers of flames erupted into a full burst as the fire gave light to the dark cave. Lamp was lying down in some cloth we also scavenged. "Where did you learn how to do that?" Lamp asked. "Chel-" I corrected myself, "A friend showed me how" "interesting..." She said, lying down. I leaned myself against the rock wall, the crystals on it poked my back. I then layed on the cold floor. "...you sure you don't want some blanket Tim?" "No...I'm...fine don't worry" I said, using my arms as a pillow. I shut my eyes. I woke up to a bright light behind me, I turned my head around to see what it was, it was Lamp sharing her blanket with me. She was hugging my back and sleeping peacefully. I scoffed, and put her hands off me. I don't want to hurt her like I did to Helga and Chelsea. I fell asleep in silence.
