n5:abstract
Alexander "Alex" Freeman was a Federation Starfleet medical technician on active duty in at least the 2260s. He was assigned to the USS Enterprise's Medical department during the latter part of James T. Kirk's first five-year mission as its captain. Freeman and Peter Kirk had been together since their Starfleet Academy days. In the "Blood and Fire" episodes, it was mentioned that they were study partners and helped tutor each other in classes, so it may be assumed they were of the same graduating class. However, on the Enterprise, Freeman had the rank of a full lieutenant, while Kirk was only an ensign. Shortly before the mission to retrieve information from the Copernicus, Peter asked Alex to marry him, and Alex finally accepted. (Star Trek: Phase II: "Blood and Fire", Parts 1 and 2; "Going Boldly")
