Maximum dexterity bonus
rdfs:comment
The maximum dexterity bonus indicates a cap on the bonus to AC from the dexterity ability modifier as a result of the armor that is being worn. Maximum dexterity bonus does not limit any other benefits from a high dexterity score, such as improved reflex saving throws, bonus to range attack or a bonus to melee attacks with the weapon finesse feat. The maximum dexterity bonus on armor only refers to the cap on the dexterity ability modifier that one can add to their armor class as dexterity bonus. One still receives: The maximum dexterity bonus is a cap on the bonus to armor class (AC) from a character's dexterity modifier. This cap applies only to AC; it does not affect the attack bonus for ranged weapons, the attack bonus from weapon finesse, reflex saves, nor dexterity-based skills (most of which are subject to the armor check penalty instead). It is, however, reflected on the character sheet, which will show the capped modifier if the maximum dexterity bonus applies (and the capped modifier will be in red if it is lower than the character's base dexterity's modifier).

The maximum dexterity bonus on armor only refers to the cap on the dexterity ability modifier that one can add to their armor class as dexterity bonus. One still receives: * the full bonus to AB for ranged attacks and attacks made with weapon finesse * the full bonus to Reflex saves. * the full bonus to skills, although the armor check penalty will reduce some of these skills (Hide, Move Silently, Set Trap, Sleight of Hand and Tumble). * full damage when using Expose Weakness The dexterity bonus to armor class is treated as dodge armor class by the game engine. As such, it is of benefit against touch attacks but it is lost if the character is caught flat-footed or is under the effect of feint. To find out more about the impact that armor has on dexterity-governed abilities, refer to the Dexterity and Armor check penalty articles. The maximum dexterity bonus is a cap on the bonus to armor class (AC) from a character's dexterity modifier. The maximum dexterity bonus is based on the type of armor worn.
