He is present after the house fire at Mark James' house and questions John about rumours that he entered the fire and rescued Sarah and Mark's dogs and flying out the back like superman. Baines is suspicious that John is lying and questions him intensely, causing the police to intervene, though he continues until John eventually walks away. The following Monday, Baines publishes a blog article named: Baines, a security officer highly-regarded by Sergeant Weller, was part of the team that Weller assembled for a mission on Aegis VII. After the Planet Crack and the resulting Necromorph infestation of the colony, Baines and Hutchins were sent to secure Weller's shuttle and prepare it for the arrival of Weller and Nathan McNeill. However, before McNeil and Weller reached the ship, one of the shuttles leaving the planet crashed back into the ground, completely obliterating the space port.

The following Monday, Baines publishes a blog article named: A story that attracts the attention of the Mogadorians. It also attracts Number Six who notices the key signs of a Garde from what was written by Baines: new to town and hard to get solid information from. Baines, a security officer highly-regarded by Sergeant Weller, was part of the team that Weller assembled for a mission on Aegis VII. After the Planet Crack and the resulting Necromorph infestation of the colony, Baines and Hutchins were sent to secure Weller's shuttle and prepare it for the arrival of Weller and Nathan McNeill. However, before McNeil and Weller reached the ship, one of the shuttles leaving the planet crashed back into the ground, completely obliterating the space port. Despite the destruction of their ship, Baines and Hutchins had managed to survive. They contacted Weller, who then directed them to the Vestri so they could meet up with him and escape the planet. While the two were able to reach the Vestri around the same time as Weller, both Baines and Hutchins are killed by one of the Hive Mind's tentacles when it burst forth from the ground.
