The city of Usaro (population 8,790) is the domain of the Gorilla King. The King and his followers are intelligent, bloodthirsty apes who serve Angazhan, Demon Lord of Beasts. Usaro is a monolithic city on the southern edge of Lake Ocota, and its inhabitants are feared throughout the Mwangi Expanse. The King's treasure vaults contain priceless riches, but the ominous sound of human-skin drums carrying across the lake deters all but the bravest or most foolhardy of treasure hunters. In 4706 AR followers of the Silverback King beheaded seventeen missionaries and Aspis Consortium merchants.

The city was founded hundreds of years ago by cultists of Angazhan. The cultists also captured the souls of monkeys in the wood-grains of idols called Tik Taan. This imprisonment, and the baleful influence of Angazhan, turned these souls to hatred and madness. The deadly mists of the Tik Taan can invade men's hearts by seeping into their mouths. This brings rage and madness. A brave Mwangi tribe called the Jambala Jaeg fought against the Tik Taan, and crafted obsidian blades to slay them. In 4706 AR followers of the Silverback King beheaded seventeen missionaries and Aspis Consortium merchants.
