The Varrock General Store is one of the most popular stores in the game. Located in the centre of Varrock, it is a General Store that is fairly typical of other such similar stores found in the game. This store used to be a major player trading centre, acting as a sort of flea market for players looking for bargains and other players simply wanting to unload surplus goods that they may have on hand. Due to its central location of a busy player centre for both F2P and member worlds, its proximity to two banks, and its general reputation as a centre of commerce, it served as a major point of player to player commerce for many years. Frequently players would also advertise requests for player to player trades to either buy or sell items without even using the store, but merely being there because of the large numbers of people that would often be there looking for bargains. On some worlds the trading would spill out onto the centre plaza, you would see players requesting trades spilling beyond even both banks in Varrock. On some worlds the trading would spill out onto the centre plaza, and on world 2 (the traditional F2P trading world) you would see players requesting trades spilling beyond even both banks in Varrock. Frequently all of the "slots" for different kinds of items that players were selling to this store would be full, with players competing with each other for any open slots due to some items being sold or with the items gradually being removed by the game. With the introduction of the Grand Exchange, almost all of the activity that used to happen near this store has since been moved to the Grand Exchange area. This transition didn't happen all at once, but has been a gradual movement by players away from this general store that has taken months to occur. Changes in the pricing structure of general stores also lead to the demise of this being a centre for bargain hunters, where the price of some items are now considerably much more expensive than they were before the creation of the Grand Exchange. Many players who have trouble selling items on the Grand Exchange will bring them to the Varrock General Store and sell them to the store instead.
