Starbase Expanse 4 had both an orbital platform to repair, replenish and assist starships and a planet-based city on its surface. Starbase Expanse 4 was originally a Federation colony. One of its founders was Ambrose Wong's grandfather. Incidentally, he was the one who discovered the extensive cave systems on Krakania and the Krakanian wall paintings. He also named the colorful purple light emanating from the caves "Peking Purple".

Starbase Expanse 4 was a Federation deep space station and planet-based starbase based on the planet Krakania on the edge of the Typhon Expanse. Starbase Expanse 4 had both an orbital platform to repair, replenish and assist starships and a planet-based city on its surface. Starbase Expanse 4 was originally a Federation colony. One of its founders was Ambrose Wong's grandfather. Incidentally, he was the one who discovered the extensive cave systems on Krakania and the Krakanian wall paintings. He also named the colorful purple light emanating from the caves "Peking Purple". In 2372, both the orbital platform and planetary base of SE4 was destroyed by a Myhr'an orbital attack. The USS Marsh and USS Ruapehu were also both destroyed. There were survivors who were not in the area during the attack, including Benjamin Caldwell and Yh'ahni. Others, such as Lieutenant Commander Samantha D'Angelo, Lieutenant Marie Senegal and Counselor Leslie Hernandez, the three of whom were slated to join the USS Cantabrian team, were killed in the attack.
