Aura Gems

Most aura gems yield beneficial effects on either the person carrying the gem, or on the entire party depending on the type of gem used. Such benefits are wide and varied, but are generally used to assist in either increasing damage output by your party, or decreasing damage received by your party. Most aura gems yield beneficial effects on either the person carrying the gem, or on the entire party depending on the type of gem used. Such benefits are wide and varied, but are generally used to assist in either increasing damage output by your party, or decreasing damage received by your party. Other aura gems bestow detrimental effects on your enemies instead. All aura gems are placed in your gem pouch as usual, and are fully and immediately effective once drawn and dragged over to an empty gem slot during combat. There is no need to click on the Aura Gem to use it, once it is in play. The effect of the beneficial aura gem will appear as a small icon above your gem slots during combat, whereas detrimental aura effects appear as a small icon by your enemy. Auras remain active until removed from play, either by replacing the gem with another one from your pouch, or for certain aura gems by the occurrence of certain actions, e.g. an enemy's Daze gem attack on you. Importantly, aura gems of different effects (status icons) stack. Auras of same effects do not stack, with the stronger effect dominating over the weaker ones. For example having a Damage Negation Aura Rank 1 gem and an Aura of Thorns Rank 1 gem in play simultaneously, results in your character reducing damage received by 2 per enemy direct damage attack AND inflicting on the enemy 2 damage per direct damage hit caused by the enemy (both gems do not have any effect on damage-over-time attacks used against you). Having two Damage Negation Aura gems in play is a waste, as only the stronger gem will have any effect. Because of the Gem Handling skill, aura gems are often placed in the first few slots in the gem pouch to assist in starting off the battle with them already active, thus eliminating the need to wait for them to be drawn to take advantage of the auras. Paladins have a class bonus that boosts the effectiveness of beneficial auras, while dark knights have a class bonus that boosts the effectiveness of detrimental auras. It should be noted that it is possible for your enemy to resist a detrimental aura. Detrimental aura gem effects behave as though the gem were a normal recastable gem whose duration of effect is equal to its recast delay. Nonetheless there is no need for you to use the gem manually; after its "delay" has passed, the aura gem will automatically try to apply the detrimental aura on your enemy again.
