When used, any searchable area or farming patch that has herbs buried in it will glow blue. When used on a compost mound familiar, it will automatically grant you one grimy herb ranarr or above, though your familiar will take double the damage from attackers for a half-hour after one casting. The spell effects do not stack, so you may cast this spell again even if a half-hour hasn't passed yet.
