Command cruiser
rdfs:comment
A command cruiser is a type of starship, a starship classification assigned to a cruiser that has been outfitted as a command ship. This designation was used by the Federation Starfleet in the 23rd century. (ST video game: Starfleet Command) In the mid-2270s, the IKS Amar was the command cruiser for a three-ship patrol formation of Klingon K't'inga-class battle cruisers. A command cruiser was a type of starship. Command cruisers were vessels that were purpose-built to serve as flagships for task forces. In wartime, these often took the place of more expensive vessels such as dreadnoughts or supercarriers. As such, command cruisers had enhanced communications suites enabling them to coordinate task force activity. Examples of purpose-built command cruisers included ships of the Balson-, Osiris- and Vincennes-classes. One sub-class of a Romulan starship class was also considered as such. (RIS Bouteina)
