The Cook Islands (i/ˈkʊk ˈaɪləndz/; Cook Islands Māori: Kūki 'Āiran is a parliamentary democracy in the South Pacific Ocean in free association with New Zealand. It comprises 15 small islands whose total land area is 240 square kilometres (92.7 sq mi). The Cook Islands' Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), however, covers 1,800,000 square kilometres (690,000 sq mi) of ocean. More information on the Wikipedia page [1] The Cook Islands / Kuki Airani are an independent country in free association with NZ like Niue. There are 15 small islands. The population is about 20,000, of whom 14,000 are on Rarotonga island. There are at least 58,000 Cook Islanders in NZ. The local language is Cook Islands Maori. It was represented at the 2000 and 2013 Rugby League World Cup. The islands were settled from Tahiti in the 700s. The nation of the Cook Islands (Figure 1) is comprised of 14 islands and atolls that are divided into two distinct island groups, the northern and southern groups. The islands lie between 8º and 23º S latitude and 156º to 167º W longitude. The 2002 mid-year population estimate for the Cook Islands is 17,900 people (SPC 2003). The Cook Islands, officially the Republic of the Cook Islands (Cook Islands Maori: Tūvehe Kūki 'Āirani, Maori: Tūwehe Kūki 'Āirani), is an island nation in eastern Oceania. Its capital is Avarua. Christine Vale's uncle and aunt owned land on Rarotonga in the Cook Islands, and Vale took leave and vacationed on the island between the USS Enterprise-E's inspection tour in late 2379 and their experiences at Romulus with Praetor Shinzon. William T. Riker came to visit her after the Enterprise returned to Earth for repair, and again offered her the position of first officer aboard the USS Titan (TNG novel: A Time for War, A Time for Peace) The flag of the Cook Islands looks like New Zealand's flag but it has got 15 stars in a circle, at the middle of the flag, instead of New Zealand's flag that has got four stars at the middle and \in a circle.
