Many New Gods had powers that function in a manner similar to those of Earth's superhuman community, ranging from self-powered flight to projection of energy blasts. New Gods rely on advanced technology as much as they do their own inherent powers and abilities. Often this technology, such as the Mother Box, bordered on the magical. The respective natures of the New Gods of New Genesis and Apokolips resulted in a war that has lasted untold ages. The conflict was, in the past, temporarily abated by a pact engaged by Highfather and Darkseid, wherein the two rulers exchanged their own infant sons in the name of peace. Some time after their children had become adults, Darkseid broke the pact, renewing their ancient hostilities. With the death, resurrection and later disappearance of Darkseid, the state of the war, as well as the claim to the throne of Apokolips, remains unknown.
