Mandau ist die traditionelle Waffe der Dayak (Ureinwohner von Borneo). Oft wird "Mandau" auch mit der Kopfjäger Zeremonie verbunden, in denen sich Stämme zu einem Angriff sammeln und dann die Köpfe der Toten sammeln, die dann in verschiedene Festlichkeiten genutzt werden. Somit ist Mandau eine Art Kunstwerk, aber auch eine grosse Waffe. Die Klinge besteht aus gehärtetem Metall, exquisiter Feinarbeit und Intarsien aus Messing. Der Griff ist aus tierischen Hörnern gemacht, wie z.B. aus den Hörner eines Hirsches. Desweiteren wurden einige Varianten gefunden, die aus menschlichen Knochen und duftenden Holz gemacht wurden. Sowohl der Griff, als auch die Scheide sind kunstvoll aus einer besonderen Holzart geschnitzt. Informationen über Schnitzereien variieren von Stamm zu Stamm, aber vor allem zeigen sie Kreaturen oder wenn menschliche Knochen verwendet wurden, anthropomorphe Gottheiten. Both the hilt and scabbard are elaborately carved and plumed. Details of carvings vary from tribe to tribe, but mostly depict creatures or, if human bones were used, anthropomorphic deities.
