Deep Space 3 was a United Federation of Planets space station active during the 24th century, located near the black cluster. (TNG: "Interface") The station was constructed near Breen space in 2328. (Last Unicorn Games) A Deep Space 3, commanded by Commander Wendell Barstow, is in The Captain's Table novel: War Dragons, set in the 23rd century. This may have been a predecessor facility with the same name that was destroyed or decommissioned. Admiral Ammerman was the commanding officer of Deep Space 3 in the 2350s. (TNG Double Helix novel: The First Virtue) Deep Space 3 was a Federation Starfleet starbase space station located near a Black Cluster. Deep Space 3 was a Federation space station that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century. In 2370, the commanding officer of this station was Vice Admiral Marcus Holt. In that year, the station hosted the annual palio, wherein the Ferengi were accused of trying to bribe the Breen pilot into throwing the race. Nine days before Holt contacted Captain Jean-Luc Picard, the USS Hera, commanded by Captain Silva La Forge, departed Deep Space 3 on a routine courier mission. For five days, the station was in contact with the starship. After the ship vanished without a trace, Holt recruited the USS Noble and the USS Excelsior for the task of finding the lost Hera. For seventy-two hours, the ships retraced the course of the Hera, without success. Holt planned on having the ships continue the search for another seventy-two hours; however, he did not think the additional time given to the ships would make a difference. (TNG: "Interface" ) According to Star Trek: Star Charts ("United Federation of Planets I") and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"), Deep Space 3 was located in the Alpha Quadrant. Deep Space 3 was mentioned in Max Grodénchik's "Rom's Song", as the station that "Rom" thought Odo ought to transfer to. The station was also referenced to in the novel A Singular Destiny as well as in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Core Game Book. In 2290, the space station was attacked by combined Anjiri and Nykkus forces, resulting in great damage, with the USS Enterprise-A and USS Excelsior taking part in the station's defense. (TOS novel: War Dragons) By 2370, the station was under the command of Admiral Marcus Holt. In that year, the station hosted the annual palio, wherein the Ferengi were accused of trying to bribe the Breen pilot into throwing the race. Later that year, the USS Hera, commanded by Captain Silva La Forge, departed Deep Space 3 on a courier mission and disappeared shortly after. (TNG episode: "Interface") In 2375, Admiral Holt reported making great strides in Federation/Breen relations until the Breen joined the Dominion. (LUG reference: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Core Game Book) By 2381, Deep Space 3 was under the command of Commander Gong. DS3 was the location of a field office of the Starfleet Corps of Engineers, directed by Lieutenant Commander Kareem Mussad. Shortly after the Borg Invasion of 2381, Deep Space 3 became a central research facility for "Project Reassimilation", a classified project to study deactivated Borg technology and attempt to adapt it for Starfleet use. (ST novel: A Singular Destiny) Deep Space 3 is mentioned in Max Grodénchik's "Rom's Song", as the station where Odo moves to.
