__NOWYSIWYG__ As an active contributor to the fanon side of the wiki, recently I've realised that there is absolutely no need for the FL&FA. Two members are inactive, with Ratava removed from the wiki completely, and we have only had one or two requests for help in recent months. In Minnichi's latest chapter of SHiE, she mentioned that it was particularly hard to get out due to writers block - OR even had a column in the latest issue of the WLS. People are having some difficulties, but they don't use the group. Particularly with the fanon side being so sluggish lately, I honestly don't think it's needed. People can go to anyone for help, but most seem to prefer to tackle these issues on their own or with their beta's. 20:54, May 27, 2013 (UTC)

The fact that writers' block is so prevalent on the portal is a reason to keep the FL&FA, not disband it. If your problem is that not enough people use their services, and perhaps you are correct, then we as a community can do a better job with letting struggling authors know that it exists. Getting rid of it certainly won't help anyone conquer writers' block. Suppose, and this is a somewhat horrible analogy, that people were ignorant of the availability of a fire department, so they never called 911 when their homes caught on fire. Well, instead of getting rid the fire department, one might want to make sure the homeowners know it's around to help. 21:18, May 27, 2013 (UTC) Well, when you use that analogy... I know that I don't like asking anyone for help for my story except my beta - I don't really think people use it because they're the same. To get help, generally they have to be willing to tell people their plans for the story they're writing, and from my experience a lot of people don't like doing that. 21:39, May 27, 2013 (UTC) If it's your personal preference to not ask for help, that's totally okay. However, not everyone will share that view. I don't see the point of terminating this usergroup if they're causing no harm. All they ever do, even if they do little of it, are things to benefit to people. It seems to me that there's no reason to dispose of something that's not doing anything adverse. 21:44, May 27, 2013 (UTC) That's the thing - they don't really do a lot. I'm on it, and I've helped two, going on three people since its inception in September last year. Perhaps it is just me, but even user groups who aim to contribute positively are pointless when they aren't doing that. It's not their fault, it's just the way it is. 22:32, May 27, 2013 (UTC) If you don't feel that you personally are doing that much to help people, I fail to see how that's a reason to eliminate the entire group. Have the other members agreed with you that the group is useless? 03:02, May 28, 2013 (UTC) I've already resigned from the group, and won't be doing any more work for them after I finish the current session. There is only one active member now - Henry. Look, if you think it should stay, that's your opinion. I don't think we need it, but I don't have a problem if we don't remove it. 03:13, May 28, 2013 (UTC) Hmmm the way I see it, this problem may solve itself when summer comes around. I could be wrong but it's a possibility. -4 00:25, May 29, 2013 (UTC) I more or less agree with Fruipit. The onus is on the usergroup to ensure that it is, at the very least, somewhat useful in the scheme of things - not accounting for the point that there is only one active member remaining. Furthermore, it can easily be reinstated if there is ever great demand for this kind of service in the future. KettleMeetPot • wall 06:22, May 29, 2013 (UTC) I maintain that the problem is the quality of the advising thus far, not the generally lack needing for advice. If the group refocused and worked to improve itself, it could become a real factor in the portal and help a lot of people. I just applied myself, and if I get accepted, I'm going to do everything I can to turn it around. Maybe I can convince a few well-known authors to apply as well. I refuse to give up on this group. 04:39, May 31, 2013 (UTC)
