He's best known for Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Treasure Island and Kidnapped which appeared in films such as Treasure Island, Muppet Treasure Island, Treasure Planet, and Kidnapped. He had lung trouble for the whole of his life, which was initially thought to have been tuberculosis; modern assessments vary. Parents were Thomas Stevenson a lighthouse designer/builder and Margaret Isabella Balfour, a lady of the upper crust. Stevenson Married once to Fanny van der Grift in May of 1880. Mister Hyde is very likely the inspiration for the Jagermonsters in Girl Genius. An interesting example of a Scottish Bohemian from around the 1870s and 1880s? it looks like Edinburgh's Napier University is richly and academically celebrating RLS with this great web site: (for which they received something like 34,000 pounds to develop, and which gives me some hope financially for World University and School eventually financially too) ... and humorous video ... Robert Louis Stevenson Day For most of his life, Stevenson suffered from ill health. It was believed during his lifetime that he suffered from tuberculosis but this has been disputed by modern researchers. In search of a suitable climate in which to live for the good of his health, Stevenson spent time in France, the United States, Hawaii, Tahiti and New Zealand. He eventually settled in Samoa, where he spent the final four years of his life. __NOEDITSECTION__ Image:Information-silk.png|Character Template rect 0 0 20 20 Staff Template desc none Robert Louis Stevenson Real Name Unknown First publication Unknown Robert Louis Stevenson was a 19th century Scottish writer and traveler who is well-known for his novel The Strange Case of Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (the plot was revealed to him in a dream), as well as other novels such as Treasure Island and Kidnapped. However, his bibliography is very extensive, as he also wrote poetry and several essays. Though he wrote many books, his work was drastically cut short, as Stevenson died at 44 due to health problems in Upolu, one of the Samoan islands. The inscription on his tombstone became a well-known and still-sung Grief Song for many Samoans. Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) was a Scottish novelist, poet, and travel writer whose popular works included The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Kidnapped and The Wrong Box. Stevenson's first achieved acclaim as a writer in 1883 with Treasure Island, an adventurous tale of pirates and buried treasure. The novel has been adapted many times, including the 1996 film Muppet Treasure Island. As a tribute to the author, a Muppet parrot named Stevenson helps the player through the Muppet Treasure Island CD-ROM game. angielski (org.) ~ hiszpański ~ fiński ~ francuski ~ portugalski ~ rosyjski ~ szwedzki Robert Louis Stevenson was a 19th century Scottish writer and traveler who is well-known for his novel The Strange Case of Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (the plot was revealed to him in a dream), as well as other novels such as Treasure Island and Kidnapped. However, his bibliography is very extensive, as he also wrote poetry and several essays. Stevenson was admired by many higher-ups in literature such as Jorge Luis Borges and GK Chesterton. Both of them were great fans of Stevenson's accessible, nigh-perfect prose. Henry James liked his works so much that he used Treasure Island when needing an example of a novel that perfectly did what it set out to do. Though he wrote many books, his work was drastically cut short, as Stevenson died at 44 due to health problems in Upolu, one of the Samoan islands. The inscription on his tombstone became a well-known and still-sung Grief Song for many Samoans. Robert Louis Stevenson (* 1850; † 1894) war ein erfolgreicher schottischer Autor von Abenteuerromanen. Seine Geschichten wurden mehrfach vertont und verfilmt. He was responsible for inspiring the horrible game for the Nintendo Entertainment System and appeared as a skeleton in The Angry Video Game Nerd episode 95. Robert Louis Balfour Stevenson (13 November 1850 – 3 December 1894) was a Scottish novelist, poet, essayist and travel writer. His best-known books include Treasure Island, Kidnapped, and the Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. A literary celebrity during his lifetime, Stevenson now ranks among the 30 most translated authors in the world, just below Charles Dickens. He has been greatly admired by many authors, including Jorge Luis Borges, Ernest Hemingway, Rudyard Kipling, Marcel Schwob, Vladimir Nabokov, J. M. Barrie, and G. K. Chesterton, who said of him that he "seemed to pick the right word up on the point of his pen, like a man playing spillikins." Under the wide and starry sky, Dig the grave and let me lie, Glad did I live and gladly die, And I laid me down with a will, This be the verse you grave for me: Here he lies where he longed to be; Home is the sailor, home from sea, And the hunter home from the hill. Victorian author who died in 1894 at age 44. Stevenson wrote one work that is Steampunk related, and that was The Strange Case of Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde. There are no screen plays or Hollywood scripts that remained true to the original story. Most of them never came very close. The novel can be found in any one of several digital formats at the Project Gutenburg. It is well worth the reader's time and trouble to download and read it. Mister Hyde is very likely the inspiration for the Jagermonsters in Girl Genius. The title of a 1982 book, Kermit's Garden of Verses, is another reference to Stevenson -- in this case, his 1885 poetry collection, A Child's Garden of Verses. Robert Louis Stevenson Day "Organised by Edinburgh Napier University's Centre for Literature and Writing along with the Edinburgh City of literature, Robert Louis Stevenson day is marked to celebrate the writers' birthday. In celebration of the life and work of one of the world's, and Edinburgh's, most famous writers there were festivities all over the city. Among the day's events, John Sessions and Nigel Planer joined a host of other readers in a day-long reading of Stevenson's Treasure Island, Edinburgh Napier students performed pop-up theatre in the city's Old Town. Take a look at this film we made for a taste of what went on." __NOEDITSECTION__ Image:Information-silk.png|Character Template rect 0 0 20 20 Staff Template desc none Robert Louis Stevenson Real Name Unknown First publication Unknown Robert Louis Stevenson (November 13, 1850 - December 3, 1894) was a Scottish novelist, poet, essayist and travel writer. In search of a suitable climate in which to live for the good of his health, Stevenson spent time in France, the United States, Hawaii, Tahiti and New Zealand.
