Gemstone is a planet located on the rim of the Esstran sector, not far from what used to be Korriban. It is a lush terrestrial world, and rich in gemstones and other precious materials. During the rule of the Galactic Empire, the noble House Valathorne rose to dominate the planet when it helped imperial forces to gain control of the orbital defense forces. Its current ruler, Queen Alassra Valathorne, eventually forged ties with the emerging Sith Empire, rebelling against imperial rule. Today it remains unaffiliated with the various major Sith factions, but has pledged its loyalty to Empress Sirena. It's nobility has access to all the high-tech the galaxy has to offer, and uses that technology to cement their rule. The common citizen barely knows about other worlds, and still heats his far Unlike other special weapon types, Gemstone weapons have no part, element, or accessory limitations other than the material. A member of the Academy City Board of Directors, Kaizumi Tsugutoshi, once had a conversation with a helper he hired from Touma's school, Kumokawa Seria, and came to the conclusion that the Imagine Breaker is not a Gemstone and is probably something beyond their understanding. Academy City currently has a theory that explains the Gemstones' existence: If their espers are artificial diamonds, then the Gemstones are natural ones. To further explain, the theory goes, “If a certain phenomenon has been caused artificially, then, as long as the same circumstances in the experiment are recreated in the natural world due to some factor or other, the same phenomenon will occur with no help from humans." Most of the people in Academy City scorn the idea of people having powers without going through the well-known power development curriculum. Gemstones are considered prized materials.
