The Light Warriors first find them when they are at the glacier. After the Light Warriors kill the Cultist's deity, an eyeball, the Light Warriors begin to slaughter them. The Light Warriors encounter them once again in the Sea Shrine. It is here that the Light Warriors learn that the Cultists aspire to summon Ur to destroy the world. Black Mage immediately attempts to join them, but when he learns that the initiation is to slice off his own head and implant an octopus spawn into his neck, he quickly changes his mind. Instead, he cuts off the head of one of the Cultists and wears it as a mask to fool the others. The Cultists, however, immediately recognize him as a fraud, until he tells them otherwise. Although Black Mage claims to be their king, they instead grant him the position of queen (as the position of king was already taken). The Cultists are radical, extremist offshoot of Adam Hale's White Faction and Marauder state. Their charismatic leader on the other hand, Adam Hale, has ties to the long vanquished Earth Defence Force and plays a major part in War of 2150 and particularly the Battle of Bakhuysen Trench when he first attempts to destroy the Terraformer. Whether the Cultists share a stronger link with the White Faction or whether Hale simply co-opts another group to suits his aims is unknown. Under Hale's leadership, the Cultists goes to war with the Red Faction and force everyone to take shelter beneath the surface after destroying the Terraformer and wrecking the planet's weather. Hale is believed to have died during this battle and the threat the Cultists posed nullified, but he survived. The Cultists, still lead by Adam Hale emerge once more after tricking Darius Mason into destroying the Seal and unleashing the Plague Armageddon upon Mars and the faction as a whole continued well the armageddon with some member likely surviving after the Plague threat is exterminated. Unlike other hosts of Las Plagas, the cultists exhibited unusually pale skin. All were bald, either the result of the Plaga or from shaving. Ritualistic tattooing was commonplace. There were variations in the cultists' robes, which may have been an indicator of rank or status. The black cultists appear to have been lower members of the order. The purple-clad cultists were known to wear goat skulls as masks. Those in red robes appear to have been the leaders, having decorated themselves with skulls and amulets. As those with red robes were seen by Leon S. Kennedy to have hosted 'C'-stage Plagas, with lower ranks hosting 'B'-stage Plagas, it appears the red cultists were parasitised first.
