The Spalgar were a near-human species that resided on Aantooine long after the destruction of the Aan and the Tooins. Their main feature were larger than normal eyes, roughly twice the size. Those born with normal eyes were considered retarded and were looked down upon. The Spalgar were known to acquire Force sensitivity with few individuals to master it. n5:abstract
The Spalgar Jedi Baki frequented the mineral mines on Aantooine for lightsaber crystals. They developed the measurement of the finger for use in astronomy. Due to their large eyes, they could also see farther than most species in the galaxy when gazing into telescopes with specially oversized eyepieces. Thus astronomy was very important to the Spalgar, where it was involved in everyday life in Spalgarian society. The phases of the five moons of Aantooine determined how the local stock market would behave, and alignments of planets in the Aan system were considered holy days. Originally, the Spalgar spoke the traditional language Old Spal, and later used ancient Aanian as a trade language, but eventually used Galactic Basic Standard as trade increased with outside systems. In galactic relations however, the Spalgar were treated as if they were related to the previous inhabitants of Aantooine, the war-faring Aan and Tooins. The Spalgar then saw it necessary to slowly destroy remainders of Aanian society to cleanse themselves towards the galactic community.
