Nils I, known as The Peaceful (Nilsi Roliki) was the first King of Thorway from 1370 - 1393. He was born in 1346 and was out of a wealthy family from Halmerhaven. In 1369 he bought the island of Thorway from the Danish King. In 1370 he was crowned as king of Thorway, after declaring Thorways independence. King Nils was married to Amalie who gave birth to his 4 sons; Malthe I, Nils II, Prince William of Thorway and Prince Hans of Thorway. Nils got his name Peaceful because of the peaceful declaration of independence in 1370. Thorway was, under his reign, a rich country with trading routes to many other countries in Europe. In 1380 he got the Danish citizens of the island Holmø to join the island by allowing them to pay no taxes the first 100 years. Nils died in 1393 after beeing killed by his wife's brother after a fight. After his death Crownprince Malthe was crowned King of Thorway.
