The planet has an eccentric orbit that makes it difficult to chart. It is also considered cursed. For these reasons, the planet is rarely visited. Some fans suspect that Furya may be a volcanically active planet, due to its eccentric orbit, which would likely make tidal and geological forces fluctuate, creating a harsher environment and forcing any lifeform populace to adapt and become hardier, including any humans who would settle there. In Pitch Black the invasion happened 25 years ago, and 30 years as of The Chronicles of Riddick.
