The wisp touched Phoebe and beamed her into a memory of a witch and her husband and daughter being burned at the stake. The wisp revealed itself to be the witch and proceeded to warn Phoebe about the return of the Old Ones and the rotting of magic at its roots. Phoebe demanded that wisp release her daughter, though the wisp wanted to keep her to replace her own lost child. Phoebe reached out to P.J. and convinced her she was not lost. P.J. then beamed into her mother's arms, freeing her from the wisp. Phoebe then used her empathy to take the pain of the wisp and allow it to cross over. Before the fairy rings were added, will o' the wisps would appear in many places around RuneScape, other than swamps. These locations are where fairy rings are now. Since they were replaced, it is suspected that they were markers for Jagex to go by. If a player stood under a Will o' the wisp, another player would not be able to see them. The player would remain invisible even though the Will o' the wisp's glow fades in and out. This is similar to the effect of a player's Pet covering up another player when the pet and other player are standing in the same square. In recent times Will O' The Wisp has been explained by science as a product of swamp gas and active imaginations but as with all things supernatural their are still people that believe this explaination isn't sufficient and their are some places that still fear this malevolent spirit. As well as being a famous troublemaker in folklore Will O' The Wisp is a popular character in fiction but is not always depicted as being evil or dangerous. A Will o' the wisp, also called "wisps" or "will-o-wisps", are some of the many strange monsters found in the Dank Wilderness. Little is known about them except that they appear as points of light, dancing at night in swamps and boggy areas. When Gale began to cry, hearing her father's screams, Evans gave her a willow branch in order to quiet her down. Gale kept the branch until she was an adult, and over the years, she began to realize that it made her feel invincible. In fact, the branch did give her supernatural powers, enabling her to avenge the crimes comitted against her parents. Gale adopted the name Will O' The Wisp and used her powers to fight for justice. She later became friends with a man named Jack Snave. Will o' the wisps are non-interactive NPCs who give off a faint glow. They only exist for short periods of time and are rather small. As a result it can be difficult to see them and even more difficult to click on them.

Will O' The Wisp is an enemy fought in Soulcalibur III as a Prepare to Defend Yourself challenge enemy, when fought, the player only has a limited amount of time to defeat it. Will O' The Wisp is another "mimic" character like Charade and Inferno, but can only mimic characters who can use Soul Edge as their weapon. It appears as a skeleton-like humanoid, with blue or orange wisps of flame covering its body. It is unplayable unless a cheat device is used. If so, it will use characters randomly, though only to those who has the weapon Soul Edge. Therefore, Will O' The Wisp will only use Tira, Nightmare, Cervantes, Lizardman, Mitsurugi, and Astaroth's moveset. To use this template, enter the following and fill in the appropriate fields. Any field left blank will not show up. In 1925, when Gale was only an infant, her mother, Martha, was murdered and her father was permanently crippled when they were attacked by Bob Evans and Red Brandois, in revenge for getting Evans convicted. In fact, the branch did give her supernatural powers, enabling her to avenge the crimes comitted against her parents. Gale adopted the name Will O' The Wisp and used her powers to fight for justice. She later became friends with a man named Jack Snave. Among other things, the willow branch enabled Gale to glow with a strange light, much like the Will O' The Wisp. It protected her from bullets and seemed to give Gale the ability to repel attackers (possibly through limited telekenesis). It is unclear, but there is some implication that the branch caused the deaths of Evans and Brandois.
