The company made Ritter one of the most wealthy men in the galaxy, in part because of its control of La Terre's polydenum holdings. SBI was crippled by Ritter's mad destruction of La Terre, and was further weakened by continued Lem'ing assaults on its shipyards. It went bankrupt, and its assets were sold at auction.
