Archmagus is a term of respect for powerful and renowned magi. The rank of archimagus is considered to be the pinnacle of a magus’ career. A prospective archmage must win the respect of the other archmagi by defeating an archmage at the archmage's chosen contest. In the Rhine Tribunal, the rank of Archmagus holds a special importance in the strictly hierarchical way that hermetic politics are decided. There are also a significantly higher proportion of Archmagi residing in the Rhine Tribunal than throughout the rest of the Order. The magi of the Rhine Tribunal hold the opinions of Archmagi in particularly high regard, and their votes are given extra weight when voting takes place on Tribunal matters.
