The Contingency was a plan devised by Emperor Sheev Palpatine to ensure that the Galactic Empire would not outlive him. He also arranged for the deaths of several Imperial Military commanders, and allowed the opposing New Republic to win a succession of victories against the Empire. In secret, Rax intended to create a new Empire in the galaxy's Unknown Regions with the aid of a select group of Imperials. A Contingency spell allows a wizard to store spells that will activate once the condition specified at casting occurs. The uses for this spell are limited only by the imagination of the wizard. A contingency is an event with the potential to disrupt computer operations, thereby disrupting critical mission and business functions, for example, a power outage, hardware failure, fire, or storm. Choose a spell of 5th level or lower that you can cast, that has a casting time of 1 action, and that can target you. You cast that spell --called the contingent spell-- as part of casting contingency, expending spell slots for both, but the contingent spell doesn’t come into effect. Instead, it takes effect when a certain circumstance occurs. You describe that circumstance when you cast the two spells. For example, a contingency cast with water breathing might stipulate that water breathing comes into effect when you are engulfed in water or a similar liquid. The contingent spell takes effect immediately after the circumstance is met for the first time, whether or not you want it to. And then contingency ends. The contingent spell takes effect only on you, even if it can normally target others. You can use only one contingency spell at a time. If you cast this spell again, the effect of another contingency spell on you ends. Also, contingency ends on you if its material component is ever not on your person. Contingency inflicts Physical Damage and adds a curse that stacks up to 5. Per curse, the armor is reduce by 1% and and a percentage of DoT damage is dealt. In secret, Rax intended to create a new Empire in the galaxy's Unknown Regions with the aid of a select group of Imperials. As the self-appointed Counselor to the Empire, Rax gathered the remnants of the Empire to Jakku where he intended to destroy both Imperial and Republic forces in accordance with the Contingency. However, he was prevented from fulfilling the final stage of the plan by Grand Admiral Rae Sloane, who fatally shot Rax during the Battle of Jakku. The mortally wounded counselor urged Sloane to escape into the Unknown Regions, informing her that she now served the Contingency in his place.
