Growing up as a pilot with his fathers' shipping company, he quickly joined the Imperial Navy after the death of his father at the hands of the Rebels during a raid on an outpost. Suffering quite a few injuries during his commands, he was unaffectionatly known to his subordinates as the tin man due to many cybernetic implants being required for him to continue his duties in the Galactic Empire. Following being overlooked for promotion to Admiral, his mental state degraded even further, helping quietly help organize the rebellion of Palpatine loyalists against Emperor Valak's regime, in what became known as the Vigilant Movement. While many officers whom he trained aided with his call to arms, the insurgency was quickly and violently crushed under the weight of the restructured Imperial Navy. It was believed that Melnick was executed for treason around the same time as his long time friend Thradash Javert was brought before the interrogators of COMPNOR, but again, the Empire continues to leave this matter as history that should not be remembered.
