The idea is that during the initial rounds of tournament poomsae competitions, athletes will compete using the conventional Kukkiwon curriculum poomsae; but then for the final rounds, athletes will compete using these more difficult poomsae. The added difficulty will make it easier for judges to distinguish between the performances of top-rank competitors. The Korean word himchari means "strength"; the Kukkiwon interprets this to symbolize "A Powerful Challenge" -- i.e., strength achieved through the accomplishment of a difficult challenge. The lines of the poomsae are intended to symbolize a sprout stretching skyward in its growth.
