An undying spirit is a spirit that cannot be destroy by conventional magical means, they can only be annihilated by a deity. They are the spirits of people, so they awake attached to bodies and when these vessels have expired, they detach and fall into what is called soul sleep (because the when the soul stretches and breaks, the spirit goes to sleep). Undying spirits that fail to fall asleep are called ghosts. They can endure for good and for evil. Sleeping undying spirits can be awoken by necromantic sorcery to be spoken to for a time. An undying spirit in this temproary state is called a shade.
