Penalties
rdfs:comment
The Penalty is an action that appears in all games since Gran Turismo 4. It is used as a deterrant for dirty racing by slowing your car down to only 31 mph (50 km/h) for a minimum of 3 seconds up to a maximum of 20 seconds. Any Penalized cars will become semi-transparent and can't be touched by other opponents (except for Gran Turismo 4, Gran Turismo 4 Prologue, and Tourist Trophy, where they still can be touched by other opponents). If there's a False Start Check, any cars that don't keep their brakes on when the race starts will incur a penalty and will only move at 6 mph (10 km/h) for 4.5 seconds.

These penalties can thankfully be turned off in the options menu for an all-out no-holds barred competition.
