Players must decide how many control dice they are adding or subtracting before they roll damage. The Jedi and Sith have long used lightsaber combat as the favored fighting style. It is almost neccesary to know how to use a lightsaber to be an excellent Jedi. The original combat, based on more conventional swordplay evolved into seven common forms, I: Shii-Cho, II: Makashi, III: Soresu, IV: Ataru, V: Shien/Djem So, VI: Niman, VII: Juyo/Vaapad. Jedi learn elements from all forms, but it is very difficult to master them all. Traditional sword techniques (attack/defence) were featured in all forms Each Jedi chose the style of lightsaber combat that best suited him or her. For example, Master Yoda used the Ataru form to compensate for his lack of reach and height; Mace Windu used Vaapad to tap into his anger and employ it constructively (albeit without giving himself over to the dark side); Count Dooku's practice of the Makashi form fit first of all his intention to frequently engage in lightsaber-to-lightsaber combat, and second his emphasis on class and elegance as well as precision. In game terms, the seven forms are represented by the following Force Sensitive powers: ==== When mankind put down the steel blade and adopted the energy sword that is the lightsaber an entirely different form of combat emerged - suited directly to the lightsaber itself. Much of this new form of combat was based on the patterns that evolved in steel blade combat. Newer forms, however, took lightsaber combat to a whole new level of complexity and intensity. Effect: To use a lightsaber most effectively, a Jedi learns this power. The Jedi uses this power both to wield this elegant but difficult-to-control weapon while also sensing his opponent's actions through his connection to the Force. This power is called upon at the start of a battle and remains up until the Jedi is stunned or injured; a Jedi who has been injured or stunned may attempt to bring the power back up. If the Jedi is successful in using this power, the Jedi adds his sense dice to his lightsaber skill roll when trying to hit a target or parry, and he adds or subtracts up to the number of his control dice to the lightsaber's 5D damage when it hits in combat. Players must decide how many control dice they are adding or subtracting before they roll damage. If the Jedi fails the power roll, he must use the lightsaber with only his lightsaber skill to hit and the weapon's normal damage in combat and he cannot attempt to use the power again for the duration of combat. Finally, the Jedi may use lightsaber combat to parry blaster bolts as a "Reaction Skill." To do this, the character must declare that he is parrying that round, using his lightsaber skill as normal. The Jedi may also attempt to control where deflected bolts go; this is a reaction skill and counts as an additional action. (The Jedi cannot full parry when trying to control deflected bolts). The Jedi must declare which specific shot he is controlling. Then, once the roll is made to see if the blaster bolt was parried by the Jedi, the Jed makes a control roll, with the difficulty being his new target's dodge or the range (figured from the Jedi to his target). The damage is that of the original blaster bolt. It is used primarily for training new Jedi in the use of the lightsaber.== ==Form 2 The perfect form for lightsaber-to-lightsaber combat and studied by almost every Jedi. Form II maximizes precision whilst minimizing movement so as not to tire the dueller. Darth Tyranus (Count Dooku) both preferred and mastered this form. Sith Lords expecting to combat Jedi studied this form carefully as it proved to be very effective in defeating Jedi knights.== ==Form 3 This form was developed specifically to counter the threat from laser blasts. As laser blasters spread throughout the galaxy Jedi had to learn to deflect/reflect laser blasts whilst offering the smallest possible target area. From this Form III was born. After the death of Qui-Gon Jinn this form was adopted and studied carefully by Obi Wan Kenobi. Many regard a true master of Form III as almost invincible. A truly defensive form.== ==Form 4 The most acrobatic of all the lightsaber combat forms. Practitioners of Form IV took lightsaber combat to incredible new levels with amazing displays of physical prowess that were beyond anybody else. Watching a Form IV Jedi in battle would be difficult because of their ability to leap, spin, jump and fight in all 3 axis. Master Yoda was a master of Form IV. Other practitioners were Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi Wan Kenobi.== ==Form 5 As the demand on the Jedi to maintain peace and order grew a more aggressive Form was needed for use in combat. Form V was designed to not only deflect laser blasts but also deflect them back on the attacker. Strength and strong lightsaber attacks feature heavily in this form which was favoured more by some Jedi than others. The morality of using an enemys weapon against them didn't sit well with some Jedi knights.== ==Form 6 A combination of Forms I, II, III, IV and V. Often referred to as the "diplomats form" this particular style of combat relied less upon combative movement and more upon allowing Jedi time to study diplomacy, galactic politics and their Jedi perception. Considered a lesser form by some Jedi masters it proved to be very popular amongst many Jedi knights. To truly master Form VI will take over 10 years of intensive study.== ==Form 7 The ultimate form of lightsaber combat which combines the raw strength of Form V with the graceful movement of Form IV. Only advanced Jedi masters such as Mace Windu can use this form effectively due to the huge emotions involvedin wielding it. Such is the emotional involvement that many Jedi refuse to study Form VII because it comes too close to the Dark Side of the force. Force assisted jumps and other movements feature heavily in Form VII as do series of sudden, seemingly unrelated, movements. A form VII practitioner will appear utterly calm on the surface but inside is a seething cauldron of emotions.== ==Form 0? There is also Form Zero but very little is known of the form itself. This form basically teaches how to wield the lightsaber without igniting it. Or in other words - only ignite when your cause is just and the situation requires it. Jedi learn elements from all forms, but it is very difficult to master them all. Traditional sword techniques (attack/defence) were featured in all forms Lightsaber combat is the preferred method of fighting used by the Jedi and Sith, which is based on ancient sword-fighting techniques. Each Jedi chose the style of lightsaber combat that best suited him or her. For example, Master Yoda used the Ataru form to compensate for his lack of reach and height; Mace Windu used Vaapad to tap into his anger and employ it constructively (albeit without giving himself over to the dark side); Count Dooku's practice of the Makashi form fit first of all his intention to frequently engage in lightsaber-to-lightsaber combat, and second his emphasis on class and elegance as well as precision. Rather, the in-game forms are supposed to reflect different ways of using the Force in combat. Lightsaber combat was the preferred style of fighting used by the Jedi and Sith, which was initially based on ancient sword-fighting technique.
