n66:abstract
Firkraag is a red dragon who bears a grudge against Gorion and, by extension, his ward. Firkraag known for his trickery and deceptions, he's disguised as Lord Jierdan, looking for "help" in the Copper Coronet, he's then responsible for the deaths of many Radiant Heart members, whom are disillusioned as monsters and slayed should the Ward accept his commission and journey to the Windspear Hills. At the beginning of Baldurs Gate II, Firkraag has taken a human form and is dressed as a simple lord under the name of Lord Jierdan. He is standing in the Copper Coronet inn, looking for someone to eliminate some monsters that have been terrorizing the Windspear Hills, a task for which he offers a reward of 10,000 gold. Should one choose to accept his quest, Windspear Hills becomes a landmark on the map. When the protagonist arrives at Windspear Hills, he is confronted by a group of ogres and other monsters. Unknown to the protagonist, these "ogres" are in fact knights disguised by an illusion. After defeating the ogres the protagonist is approached by Garren Windspear, the Windspear Hills's ranger. Garren Windspear tells the protagonist that he has been tricked by Firkraag into killing the knights (one of whom was Ajantis, a character who traveled with the protagonist in Baldur's Gate). Shortly thereafter, the son or daughter (depending on the main character's gender) of Garren Windspear is kidnapped and a message arrives from Firkraag. The message is a challenge, asking the protagonist to come to Firkraag's lair to meet him. His interest in the main character is due to Firkraag's previous experiences with Gorion, the foster father of the main character. As Gorion is now dead, Firkraag seeks vengeance on the protagonist. In the end he allows protagonist to live, saying that he has grown bored. It is possible to rescue the child of Garren Windspear by killing the mage who has the key, without fighting Firkraag himself. Firkraag may thereafter be killed at any time by the player character and his party, and doing so one of the quests associated with the paladin stronghold. Firkraag, also known as Lord Jierdan Firkraag, was a red dragon living in the Windspear Hills in Amn and masquerading as a human noble. He took over the area after financially ruining the rightful owner of the lands, Garren Windspear, and made his lair in an old temple/tomb complex nearby. Firkraag surrounded himself with such minions as orcs, hobgoblins, ogrillons, wolfweres and golemss. Another notable follower of the dragon was Tazok, previously a minion of Sarevok. Having been in the past wounded by Gorion and "his Harper friends," Firkraag plotted revenge against Gorion's adopted child—the protagonist of the game - when he or she arrived in Amn. The player can meet the polymorphed "Lord Jierdan" in The Copper Coronet in Athkatla, and he will make a generous-seeming offer for them to come and help clear out the monsters infesting the lands supposedly belonging to him. If they should take the bait, however, they will find themselves attacked by apparent monsters as soon as they enter the hills - only to find after the battle that the attackers were really knights, both sides in the battle having been fooled by an illusion to think they were fighting monsters. Firkraag's plan does not end here, however, as after Garren Windspear offers to clear their names for murdering the knights, the dragon's minions kidnap his child from right in front of their noses. The player's party can then elect to go after Firkraag and his captive, fighting through his lair and finally discovering that he is actually a dragon. At that point, Firkraag says he's growing bored with his game and lets the heroes take Garren's child with them if only they can defeat his pet wizard. Firkraag himself is not particularly interested in fighting but will oblige the protagonist if they wish to attack; he's one of the strongest opponents in the game. A smart and evilly inclined character can also make a deal with him to obtain the deed to the lands from Windspear in exchange for minor magical items. If killed, however, Firkraag will leave behind not only wealth and his scales that can be used to make a powerful suit of armor, but also the Holy Avenger Carsomyr.
