The Blair Witch Project is a 1999 American horror film written and directed by Eduardo Sanchez and Daniel Myrick. It was one of the first films to utilize the "found footage" filiming technique. Other films such as Cloverfield, Diary of the Dead, and Paranormal Activity would use this same technique. The Blair Witch Project is a horror movie, shot entirely in the style of a documentary Gone Horribly Wrong. Three college students are researching "The Blair Witch", and go on an expedition into the local forest where the legend is supposed to have started. Things ultimately take a turn for the worse. Had a poorly received sequel which upped the Mind Screw and pretty much killed the franchise off. The directors are still thinking of coming back for a third, though. The Blair Witch Project was a student film thesis by Heather Donahue for her film class with Mr. DeCoto. Dated April 18, 1994, The Blair Witch Project was to be a documentary about the Burkittsville-area legend of the Blair Witch. She intended to tell the story of the Blair Witch through interviews with Burkittsville natives, local law enforcement officials on the Rustin Parr case, and folklore experts. The heart of the documentary would be a weekend hike into the Black Hills Forest to visit some of the locations associated with the legend. The Blair Witch Project (issued in the UK as The Tony Blair Witch Hunt) is a poorly made American horror film where three actors were also the directors of photography, making a documentary in the Burkitsville Woods that was so horrifyingly crappy that it would scare its audience to death! The movie was released in 1999 and was not successful as a death weapon, and actually set the wrong impression. Many people were convinced that the movie was a real "documentary", making them very scared of the Burkitsville woods. That was until people saw the main actress, Heather Dontknowhu, walking around on the streets after the movie was released. People got angry and were all like, "Hey, Bitch! Now what it's really notable for is having one of the best Viral Marketing campaigns ever, and certainly one of the first to demonstrate the effectiveness of internet advertising: fake online documents, footage, published dossiers, interviews, and even a couple of professional-looking television documentaries blurred the line between truth and fiction like few other campaigns had done before or since. Many were convinced that the movie was based on a true story, or even consisted of actual footage. Even more were subtly convinced that the "Blair Witch" was a real legend, as opposed to something the film-makers made up themselves. Had a poorly received sequel which upped the Mind Screw and pretty much killed the franchise off. The directors are still thinking of coming back for a third, though.
