Michel Delving is the largest town in the Shire, located in the western edge of the Westfarthing in the White Downs on the Great East Road. The Mayor of the Shire is elected in Michel Delving, which is also the location of the Lockholes and the famous Mathom-house. Originally known as Mich Hollow this town was situated at the base of the highest prominence of the White Downs. Here an impressive break in the hills sent Michin Stream flowing westward into the Mistvale and allowed the Men Romen to pass gracefully through on its way to the Grey Havens. It was the home of Marcho and Blanco Fallohide, the two founders of the Shire. Michel Delving, despite it's political importance, was primarily an agrarian community.

大掘町 西四が一の庄内の村と一見何ら変わりのない大堀町は、実はホビット庄の中心地である。栽培と農業が専門職業、政治や各四が一の遥か隅々からの最新の噂への道を開いている。ホビットが鋤の刃やその日の噂を求めていようが、大堀町が活動の中心となっている。 大堀町は、その政治会談や地元の噂、やじや愚弄の中心となっている小足家のウィル老（または、「フラワーダンプリング」）の町長の座タウンホールの故郷である。庄察の本部や庄境巡察の拠点、またホビット庄の郵便サービスの本社もこの町にある。大堀町の有名な名所の一つがマゾム館である。そこには緑野の合戦の英雄であったバンドブラス・トゥック（「牛うなり」）の伝説的な棍棒を含むホビット庄の歴史にまつわる遺物が存在する。 大堀町はトールキン教授著「指輪物語」で一瞬描写されているだけだが、お馴染みの場所ではある。小説の中では、シャーキィの手下の男たちによって古い貯蔵トンネルが留置穴に改造される場面に登場してくる。タウンホールは、小足家のウィル老のあだ名の秘話を語る大きな役割を果たしている。また、マゾム館はビルボ・バギンズの古いエルフの剣つらぬき丸とミスリルのシャツが長いこと展示されていた場所である。LOTROプレイヤーは、町長の小足家のような小説の登場人物に触れることができ、マゾム館のような数々の有名な場所を訪れることができる 名声派閥：The Mathom Society / The Inn League
