"Blackest Night" is a 2009–2010 American comic book crossover storyline published by DC Comics, consisting of an eponymous, central miniseries written by Geoff Johns and penciled by Ivan Reis, and a number of tie-in books. "Blackest Night" involves Nekron, a personified force of death who resurrects deceased superheroes and seeks to eliminate all life and emotion from the universe. Geoff Johns has identified the series' central theme as emotion. The crossover was published for eight months as a limited series and in both the Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps comic titles. Various other limited series and tie-ins, including an audio drama from Darker Projects, were published. The Blackest Night is a crazy Green Lantern zombie love-fest where everybody who ever got killed is reborn with supahpowers. And like any villains with true ambition, they just want to eat the flesh of the innocent. Why? Because zombies are fucking cool. Seven corps will be at war. And they will vary from being completely badass like 'rage' to being lame fruity gimmicks, like 'passion' or 'hope'. A massive Black Lantern has erupted from the blood-soaked streets of war-torn Metropolis and Nekron has risen from this deathly soil. The embodiment of death is no easy foe to defeat and Hal Jordan, Sinestro, and the rest of the champions have been unable to even make a scratch. You must fight alongside Carol Ferris and the Lantern Corps and send Nekron back to the Land of the Unliving in this Operation.
