n9:abstract
The M316 Omega Mobile Missile Platform is a anti-capital ship missile system, intended to launch salvos of missiles to ships in low orbit or in atmosphere. The Omega MMP carries 8 missile bins in vertical launch position, taking up the entirety of the rear cab. In the forward section is the launch control section, with a central holographic desk. This desk is used to highlight orbital targets for target designation. There are three work stations, one used for radio control, one for electronic countermeasures on the missile and one for missile direction, controlling the missiles in flight and shifting control to localised spotters/air controllers. The 8 missile bins can be fitted with either MSM-124 Callisto Missiles or MSM-125 Avatar missiles. These missiles are deadly against enemy warships, being capable of crippling smaller ships in a single salvo and forcing larger warships onto the defence. An entire battery is capable of downing a Corvette-class vessel, damaging even Battlecruisers, with massed batteries capable of causing significant damage to orbiting fleets. The choice of missiles include the MSM-124 Callisto, an enlarged version of the Archer missile and the MSM-125 Avatar, a variant designed to carry nuclear warheads. The Callisto carries a triple warhead consisting of a shield damaging EMP warhead, a fragmentary ring and penetrating warheads. The Avatar utilises the W700 AVENGER Nuclear Warhead, usually fired by warships, intended for generating a fusion explosion in deep space and causing horrendous damage to ships and shielding. Both of these missiles have a relatively short range, being incapable of hitting a target outside of geosynchronous orbit. It holds over the crane of the Elephant to facilitate loading from a external source, usually a Bison supply vehicle.
