Quartz, the most common mineral found in the earths crust, is found just within the earth. Miners will use equipment such as bulldozers to haul out big areas of dirt, which are covering the veins of quartz. Then, the workers will very carefully use shovels, picks, chisels and even dental tools to loosen the pieces of quartz that can be seen. As each piece is found, it is wrapped in paper or other material for protection and packed away to await inspection.
