But more profoundly, it’s helped me document the power in ordinary people facing extraordinary difficulty to move from feeling overwhelmed by circumstances to a way of being that makes them larger than circumstances. That's what I write about, whether it's fiction, non-fiction or poetry, and it's the goal in my work with people.”
