Avatar Wiki:War Room/100 day badge
rdfs:comment
__NOWYSIWYG__ The current 100 day badge is "Lightning Redirection Master". I propose renaming, and re-imaging, this to "Metalbending Master". The reason why I propose this change is simple. Metalbending is a far more prominent bending discipline than Lightning Redirection. Other than Mako, Zuko, Iroh, and Aang, no one has shown knowledge of the skill. On the other hand, Metalbending is a widespread skill, and an entire city of Metalbenders was founded. Your thoughts? The 4th Avatar 17:15, May 24, 2015 (UTC) 18:55, May 25, 2015 (UTC)

The 4th Avatar 17:15, May 24, 2015 (UTC) Lightning generation is also a widespread skill, considering the power plants in Republic City are at least partly powered by lightning benders (cfr. Mako's job). As such, this seems such a minute detail that doesn't seem worth the trouble of changing it since both bending disciplines have their own merit. 18:57, May 24, 2015 (UTC) Yes that's true, but the badge is specifically about lightning redirection, a far more rare skill. A minute detail it is, yes, but certainly one that should be considered. Had the badge been called "Lightning Generation Master", then I would not have made this suggestion. The 4th Avatar 02:52, May 25, 2015 (UTC) Since we're talking about details anyway, the Lightning Redirection Master badge is awarded for a 100 consecutive days editing streak; only 97 people of all the users on the Avatar Wiki have succeeded in doing that (177 have the Firebending Master badge (60 days), 313 the Earthbending Master one (30 days), 543 the Waterbending Master (14 days), and 1439 people have the Airbending Master one (5 days)). As such, that is a pretty rare thing to do, which thus warrants its image and name to be that of a rare skill, not one which is wide-spread. That said, as you can see from the order of the badges (it goes on to the 200 days badge, Energybending Master (38 people), and then Fully Realized Avatar for editing for 365 days, which has been earned by 16 people), it follows the order of skills that Aang learned (and he never learned metalbending). 09:00, May 25, 2015 (UTC) Ironically, the statistics match closer to metalbending. According to Bolin, only 1 out of 100 earthbenders can metalbend. To this day, about 16,000 users have joined the wiki, and as you said, 97 of them have earned the 100 day badge. Rounding up, .625% is closer to 1/100 than 4 out of a nation of firebenders is (clearly a much smaller fraction). My point is, metalbending is still a rare skill. It just doesn't seem that way because there are more earthbenders than firebenders, so they appear to be in larger numbers, yet statistically, the ratios tell a different story. Due to this, I think it matches the badge more accurately. The 4th Avatar 11:17, May 25, 2015 (UTC) And according to Suyin and Toph, everyone can metalbend. So Bolin's statement doesn't necessarily reflect the truth. So all we truly have to go on are the amount of benders shown in the franchise displaying the skill in question. So statistically, lightning generation is far more rare than metalbending. That said, as I said before, the reason why it is lightning generation is because the consecutive editing badges follow Aang's learning process. He mastered those skills. He never mastered metalbending. 14:49, May 25, 2015 (UTC) I see your point, but we'll have to agree to disagree since we're basing the badge off of differing series. The 4th Avatar 18:34, May 25, 2015 (UTC) Yes, the problem being, the Last Airbender came first and actually has a progressive series of badges. Maybe, we can add things like metalbending and perhaps even "United Forces General" badges. 03:22, May 30, 2015 (UTC) Things are fine to me as they are. I'm sorry but there is absolutely no need to change the badge, especially since lightning redirection was typically a skill only utilised by royals and the Avatar. Now, the commoners are using it but that is the same with metalbending. There is no point and no apparent benefit. 18:55, May 25, 2015 (UTC) I also think that the badges are fine as they are. 23:36, May 26, 2015 (UTC)
