The vote came down to Florida where recounts were taking place. The Supreme Court tried to step in but people called this the government ruining states rights as Florida's was that if under a 0.5% a recount would be held in all places like so. Just before the Supreme Court was to halt all recounts the vote came out and Al Gore was announced the winner.
