New Sicily was a mostly mountainous planet, with its population of over nine billion being crammed into dense cityscapes covering less than two percent of the planet's landmass. Its population was of a mostly South-Central European or Mediterranean descent, with a fair portion of the population also tracing its roots back to the North African region of Earth. In 2541, New Sicily was attacked by Covenant forces led by Zealot Fleet Master Lok 'Ithomee. While Lok 'Ithomee would be killed by Sapphire Team and Colin-142, he would be quickly replaced by his protégé and nephew, Rhul 'Ithomee, who pressed the attack on the planet with renewed fervor, intent upon avenging his mentor's death. On October 1, 2541, New Sicily was glassed, and as such was abandoned by the UNSC.
