On October 14, 2016, an election was held in San Joaquin to determine Daniel McComb's successor in the KS Senate. McComb, running for Prime Minister in the Sierra prime ministerial election, was ineligible to stand for the Senate according to Sierran law. The race to fill his soon-to-be-vacant seat was between businesswoman and CEO of Heartwell Properties and Investments Nemesis Heartwell and former optometrist and San Joaquin provincial senator Am Nguyen. Heartwell, by a margin of 5%, defeated Nguyen, carrying eight counties out of San Joaquin's nine. At the age of 27 years, 45 days, she will become the youngest senator in Sierran history upon her inauguration on December 16, 2016. Heartwell's election was unprecedented, especially by the margin which she won, as Heartwell had never held any political office prior and was considered an extreme outsider. Heartwell has been hailed as the "Alt-right's arrival to Sierra" by various news media.
