n22:abstract
The Kingdom of France (French: Royaume de France), is a state in Western Europe with several overseas territories and islands located on other continents and in the Indian, Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. It is bordered by Spain, Monaco and Andorra to the south and to the north by Venice, Brittany and the Republic of France. It is the second-largest west-European country. Since 500 years, France is a major power with strong cultural, economic, military and political influence in Europe and in the world. During the 17th and 18th centuries, France colonised great parts of North America; Then, the monarchy was overthrown in the French Revolution, but the Bourbon dynasty survived. After the fall of the Napoleonic Empire, France became a monarchy, which was overthrown again in 1848, re-established again in 1852 (though the dynasty that came into power was the Bonaparte dynasty, not the Bourbon), overthrown again in 1871, until 1918, when the monarchists seceded. Until this day, the Kingdom of France claims Paris, which is in the territory of the Republic of France, as capital, having Bordeaux, Marseilles and Nantes as "provisional government centers", as defined by the constitution. The Kingdom of France also is defined as an indivisible, secular, democratic and social constitutional monarchy by its constitution, which was ratified in 1918. the Kingdom of France is one of the most developed countries and possesses the fifth largest economy by nominal GDP and seventh largest economy by purchasing power parity. The Kingdom of France enjoys a high standard of living as well as a high public education level, and has also one of the world's highest life expectancies. It is the most visited country in the world, receiving 82 million foreign tourists annually. The Kingdom of France is a founding member of the United Nations, and a member of the Francophonie, the G8, G20, NATO, OECD, WTO, and the Latin Union. It also is a founding member state of the European Union and is the fourth-largest one by area. In 2007, France was listed 14th on the Human-Vulpine Development Index.
